The vaping world is quite exciting, and with the freedom to mix unique flavors, the fun never ends. If you are a beginner to DIY vape juice, you only need to follow a few simple rules when mixing the e-liquid flavors. It isn’t all roses in the beginning, but along the line, you will find yourself vaping on delightful flavors that you made yourself.
Once you get used to the mixing process, you will be able to create some outstanding vape juice blends.
What is an e-liquid?
To start with, e-liquid is the fluid that is converted into vapor by your electronic cigarette or vaporizer. E-liquid, e-juice, e-cig liquid, vape juice all refer to the same thing. The same fluid that is vaporized by an electronic cigarette which rewards you with flavor and vapor. E-liquids consist of four basic ingredients;
- Vegetable glycerin (VG)
- Propylene Glycol (PG)
Vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) form the base of an e-liquid which means they carry all the other ingredients (nicotine and your vape juice flavor). They form the medium to vaporize the other ingredients. Flavoring and nicotine form just about 10% of the total volume of an e-liquid.
The Basics of Mixing E-liquids
Just like we said earlier, there are a few simple rules when mixing e-liquids. Let’s get to them:
- When mixing your vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG), make sure to use similar viscosity blends. If you prefer a thick e-liquid, try mixing bottles of 70/30 VG/PG or 90/10 VG/PG. If you prefer a lighter e-liquid, try mixing bottles of 50/50 VG/PG.
- When mixing flavors, make sure to use similar flavor profiles. Of course, you can introduce unusual flavors into your mix but proceed with caution.
- Make use of a common mixing ratio. 50/50 is a great starting point especially for pure fruit flavors, but 75/25 is great for fruit and dessert mixes.
Finding The Right Flavors
When mixing e-liquids, flavor is something you cannot underemphasize especially if you want to have an enjoyable vape experience. If you like a certain flavor, chances are that you will like it in e-liquid form. Thankfully, eliquid favors are endless. Just like we said earlier, when mixing e-liquid flavors, you will do well to start with the same flavor family.
You should note that not all flavorings are made for vaping. Flavorah only sells PG solvent flavors. This is because oil soluble flavors are not safe for vapor. So when buying flavors, take note of this. Oils and wax bases should never be used in a vape or e-cig type device.
What E-liquid Flavors Work Well Together?
With the increase in popularity of DIY e-liquid, many vapers like yourself can find step-by-step e-liquid recipes to start with. It’s now easier than ever, you can search online for DIY e-liquid recipes and get your creative juices flowing from the results. Here, you can also try out these five simple e-liquid flavor combinations:
- Apple + Banana
- Banana + Peanut Butter
- Custard + Lemon
- Banana + Vanilla + Custard
- Watermelon + Apple + Cucumber
When mixing flavors like these, you need to consider the ratio because potency is a big factor. For example, if you want to mix a strong flavor with a subtle one, use the drop technique so you can get a good ratio. Example: in our first sample flavor combination, you can use 10 drops of the slightly subtle banana flavor for every one drop of the apple flavor.
If you are new at this, don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Mixing vape juice flavors is absolutely fun. So get down to your vape station and start whipping up some groundbreaking vape juice flavors.
