If you’re a novice vaper, there is a lot to learn about vaping. The usual route is to start by learning about the composition of an e-cig, then learn how to use it. Another thing you will learn is that there are two ways of vaping: Mouth-to-Lung and Direct Lung. What are these vaping techniques and how do you vape correctly?
The Difference Between Mouth to Lung and Direct Lung
These are two different ways to inhale vapor from a vaping device. These two techniques provide different vaping experiences and are best suited for certain types of vaping devices.
- Mouth-to-Lung: With mouth-to-lung vaping, you’ll first inhale the vapor into your mouth and hold it there for a moment before pulling it into your lungs. Ex-smokers would have no problem mastering this technique because it is the same way that a cigarette is smoked.
You feel a subtle tingling sensation in your throat. The throat hit with mouth-to-lung e-liquids is a lot smoother than from the direct lung method
Mouth-to-lung is the best method if you’re a flavor chaser. It lets you experience the flavor to the max. You can taste the nuance undertone of each flavor. It’s also a great method when vaping in public because of the low cloud production
- Direct Lung: As the name implies, this method involves inhaling the vapor straight into the lungs. It is somewhat similar to breathing. With direct lung vaping, the throat hit can be very intense – depending on the nicotine strength of the e-liquid. For newbie vaper, it may require some getting used to.
While the throat hit is good with direct lung vaping, do not expect much in terms of flavor. This doesn’t mean that the flavor is muted, but it is not as intense. Direct lung vaping is the best method for abundant cloud production. This is the method most used by cloud chasers.
What You Need for Each Method
There are a few things that you’ll have to consider to get started with either direct lung or mouth-to-lung vaping.
- Mouth-to-Lung – You can use just about any type of electronic cigarette for this vaping style. Mouth-to-lung vaping is best if vaping at low wattage (no higher than 15-20 watts) and the coils should be at least 1.2 ohms or higher.
This method is best for e-liquids that have a high ratio of propylene glycol. Max PG e-liquids provide a more intense throat hit. High propylene glycol (PG) e-liquids also have a better flavor than MAX VG).
Mouth-to-lung vaping is perfect for vapers who enjoy a lot of nicotine. The low wattage and high nicotine provide a smoother and more flavorful vaping experience.
- Direct Lung – For direct lung vaping, it’s essential to have a good set up for the best experience. Most modern tanks are designed for direct lung vaping. They have large air flow holes and many have multiple coils. Sub-ohm tanks are the best for direct lung vaping. You’ll also notice that sub ohm tanks have larger wicking ports and are loaded with organic cotton. The wicking of sub ohm tanks allows them to be quickly saturated with e-liquids and produce massive vapor.
For direct lung vaping, you need to opt for MAX VG e-liquids. Max VG e-liquids are thick and are known for excellent cloud production.
If you’re a newbie to vaping, any nicotine strength above 6 mg may likely produce a very harsh throat hit unless you’re a heavy smoker.
Most experienced vapers alternate between direct lung and mouth-to-lung vaping depending on whether they are seeking to relish the flavor or are cloud chasing.
